What I Hope To Contribute As Your County Commissioner

Improving Wrap-Around Services for Families

Improving Wrap-Around Services for Families

Improving Wrap-Around Services for Families

Mecklenburg County has overlapping services that have the potential to narrow the gap of disparities among families. What I've learned from families is their need for access and navigation of those services to improve their quality of life.

Addressing Food Insecurity

"Around 15% of Mecklenburg residents live in a food desert — higher than the national average. Researchers define a food desert as a low-income neighborhood without access to a full-service grocery store or supermarket." (Source: Urban Institute, UNCC).

Acceleration of the Minority, Women & Small Business Enterprise Program

Acceleration of the Minority, Women & Small Business Enterprise Program

Mecklenburg County offers certification in its Minority, Women & Small Business Enterprise (MWSBE) Program. "It is the policy of Mecklenburg County to provide women, minorities, and small businesses equal opportunity to participate in construction and professional services contracts. Through the MWSBE program, the County has set aspirational goals for participation by women, minorities, and small businesses."

Improve Accessibility, Maintenance & Expansion of Greenspace/Parks

Acceleration of the Minority, Women & Small Business Enterprise Program

Parks & greenspace serve as a means for improving mental & physical health. Many residents in Mecklenburg County have limited access to parks or greenspace. Parks in lower income areas need better maintenance and upkeep.

The race of man is suffering
And I can hear the moan,
'Cause nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone. ~ Dr. Maya Angelou
