Meet Yvette Townsend-Ingram, a native West Virginian, who moved to Charlotte, NC more than 25 years ago to begin a better life than she was experiencing as a 21-year-old graduate of HBCU, West Virginia State University (WVSU) with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Yvette proudly professes her lineage of being a coal miner’s daughter and granddaughter and credits her grandfather and her late mentor, LTC. Acie McGhee for guiding her to WVSU, where she attended on full academic scholarship. Yvette is a first generation college graduate of WVSU where she pledged Nu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc in 1991. Yvette has earned an M.B.A. and completed all coursework for a doctorate in Business Administration. She will successfully finish by defending her dissertation in Business Administration.
From the very beginning, Yvette took an active role in the community, volunteering within Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) as a parent and at voter registration drives within Mecklenburg County. In addition to education, Yvette found another passion in political activism, remembering vividly what she had learned about the sacrifices of her elders for rights of all to vote! She had a desire to affect policy, particularly for the most marginalized in her community, parents, students, educators, all of whom she identified with.
Yvette's "why" includes her two adult sons and her two granddaughters, ensuring that they have the best future possible--along with all in her community! "The blessing is that I have experienced many different adversities and overcome them. So I have an understanding, an empathy, combined with a desire to ensure no one goes without the basic necessities, to even the playing field. But I also want you to thrive! My experience and my expertise puts me in a perfect position to serve in this capacity!"
Education! Education! Education!
My activism and community engagement is inspired by your basic human rights--food/nurtrion; a safe place to live; wholistic healthcare. MOST EVERYTHING YOU ARE CONCERNED WITH!
