Priorities

Let's Start Here

*Access & Navigation of Wrap-Around Services

Mecklenburg County has wrap-around services that have the potential to narrow the gap of disparities among families. What I've learned from families is their need for access and navigation of those services to improve their quality of life.

Mental healthcare for all, but especially youth, is a crucial priority for me. Mecklenburg County has services available that many in need are not aware of or do not have access to. Total wellness is a critical need. I want to meet people at their need.

*Addressing Food Insecurity

"Around 15% of Mecklenburg residents live in a food desert — higher than the national average. Researchers define a food desert as a low-income neighborhood without access to a full-service grocery store or supermarket." (Source: Urban Institute, UNCC). My priority is partnerships with organizations that can improve access to fresh food and vegetables in identified zip codes of food deserts. I seek to combine efforts of Congresswoman Alma Adams, D12, in addressing this crisis.

*Acceleration of the Minority, Women & Small Business Enterprise Program

Mecklenburg County offers certification in its Minority, Women & Small Business Enterprise (MWSBE) Program. "It is the policy of Mecklenburg County to provide women, minorities, and small businesses equal opportunity to participate in construction and professional services contracts. Through the MWSBE program, the County has set aspirational goals for participation by women, minorities, and small businesses." As a small business owner myself, I want to accelerate the program by improving accessibility and navigation of the certification process.

*Improve Accessibility, Maintenance, & Expansion of Greenspace/Parks

Greenspace matters for physical and mental health! We need our parks and greenways for so much more than just recreation. Recently, I was a co-leader of a Mecklenburg County pilot budgeting project that included several for greenspaces & parks. I want to improve accessibility, maintenance, and expansion of greenspace.
